1000+ Activists March on Bank of America in Protest of Predatory Lending Practices; 24 Arrested

BOSTON/Financial District - Over 1000 people joined a march against Bank of America's regional headquarters in Boston's Financial District yesterday. The event was called by the Right to the City Alliance, an urban movement for economic justice with member-organizations across the US. Several Boston-based organizations are involved in the alliance and have been hosting its national convention here his weekend, including Alternatives for Community and Environment, Boston Workers Alliance, Chinese Progressive Association and City Life/Vida Urbana.

"No Truth" to Activist Rumor of Shutdown Tomorrow at B of A's 100 Federal St. Building

BOSTON - Earlier today, sources close to the Right to the City movement - that will be leading a protest march to Bank of America's building at 100 Federal St. in Boston's Financial District tomorrow - said that they had heard a rumor that B of A planned to shut the building down for all or part of the day tomorrow in attempt to derail the protest. When asked for comment, T.J. Crawford, Bank of America senior vice president of media relations, stated "There is no truth to this whatsoever."

BOSTON/Jamaica Plain - Opponents and supporters of a new Whole Foods supermarket, scheduled to replace the recently-shuttered Hi-Lo Foods market, debated their positions at a meeting of the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council at the John F. Kennedy School on Monday. Hi-Lo, a grocery store formerly catering to the Latino community, closed its doors after 47 years at the disputed location.
