Brookline, MA - On Sunday, May 22, Boston Sass Attack, a radical cheerleading group, led a flashmob in several grocery stores in support of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers, an internationally-recognized Florida farmworker organization, to demand one penny more per pound for picked tomatoes. The CIW has reached groundbreaking agreements with many leading food retailers, including McDonald's, Subway, and Whole Foods. However, workers are still paid the same piece rate (an average of $.50 per 32 lb. bucket) as they were 30 years ago.

Conversations with the Candidates for U.S. Senate: Alan Khazei
Brookline, MA - Between now and December 8th, the date of the special statewide primary, Open Media Boston will present conversations with the candidates vying to fill the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by the death of Senator Edward Kennedy.
All of the declared Democrats have expressed a desire to emulate if not replace Kennedy’s decades long resume of accomplishments as a voice for liberal causes.
In the first of our series, we speak with Alan Khazei, founder and CEO of social justice organizations Be The Change, Inc. (he has since stepped down from that position to run for the Senate seat) and co-founder of City Year.
