Twenty Anti-Zionist, Pro-Palestinian and Anti-Imperialist activists protested against CJP's "New England Celebrates Israel @ 60" event in Waltham on Sunday June 1.

Members of Boston Anti-Zionist Action and other Boston-area pro-Palestine activists were joined by Anti-Zionist Orthodox Jews from Neturei Karta International http://www.nkusa.org/.

We protested outside the Gann Academy where hundreds of Zionists were "celebrating" the 60th anniversary of their unilateral declaration of Jewish-supremacist rule in Palestine. To the Palestinians this is the 60th anniversary of the Nakba catastrophe when over 900,000 Palestinians were forced off their land by Zionist terrorist groups. We told the "pro-Israel celebrants" that Zionism is racism, Zionism is terrorism, Zionism is genocide, and that they should not be celebrating genocide. The Neturei Karta rabbis stressed that according to their interpretation of Jewish law, "Israel" has no right to rule over any part of Palestine. All of Palestine belongs to the indigenous Palestinians.

Jeanette McCarthy, the mayor of Waltham, was present trying to stop us from protesting. She showed up after the start of the protest and declared that she was disallowing parking on the side street where most of the protesters were already legally parked. Some of us moved our cars, and some of us refused to move our cars. The mayor and police threatened to tow the cars, but they eventually gave up and allowed the cars to stay. When we first got to the location, a CJP security person told us we had to move to a protest zone behind the "celebration", but we successfully insisted we would stay on the front sidewalk where we were visible.

This protest was only one of numerous Nakba commemoration demonstrations and pro-Palestinian protests against similar "Israeli celebrations" in cities across North America including New York City and Washington DC.
