CHUCK TURNER: COINTELPRO 2.0: The FBI's Targeting of Black Leadership

Start: 01/16/2011 - 11:00 End: 01/16/2011 - 14:30 Timezone: Etc/GMT-5 Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. CHUCK TURNER "COINTELPRO 2.0: The FBI's Targeting of Black Leadership" Rev. Bill Alberts past CCB minister wrote "The Federal Bureau of Investigation pays a black man (Ronald Wilburn) $30 000 to offer a bribe of $1 000 to a black Boston City Councilor (Chuck Turner). What’s wrong with this picture?" The FBI also paid an informant to bribe Senator Dianne Wilkerson. They have used these tactics around the country taking power away from Black leadership perpetuating white supremacy. We will discuss the role of the FBI in the political attacks in Boston within the larger framework of an FBI program to harass communities of color across the nation. Chuck Turner has been a community organizer and civil rights activist in Boston Massachusetts since 1966. Referred to as one of the best-known agitators in the city he was elected to the Boston City Council in 1999. As a Boston city council member Turner has continued his defense of civil and human rights. He authored an ordinance protecting transgendered people from discrimination. He successfully led an effort to protect the affirmative action guidelines of Massachusetts when Governor Mitt Romney fought to change them. And as chairman of the Education Committee he has rallied against educational inequality in the Boston public schools. The list of his accomplishments goes on! ============= DIRECTIONS/PARKING The Community Church is located at 565 Boylston Street in Copley Square between Dartmouth and Clarendon Streets.
